Licensing
Training vs. Career Training In
the mortgage business there are two kinds of learning; Licensing and Vocational.
Licensing learning is credential based, which means there is
information, pre-requisite learning or testing required to obtain or
maintain business licensing, registration or certification. Most
mortgage originators and some company owners must have credential based
learning.
Vocational learning is skill based technical learning that enables a
participant to do his or her job more effectively, ethically, and
professionally. Most new originators, processors and
closer/funders need
vocational learning. Seasoned professionals need advanced topics
to expand their understanding of the business and take advantage of
market opportunities.
In the past, all on-line learning has been entirely credentials based
- with elective hours applied to basic topics. It is easy to
assemble compliance topics, but very, very difficult to create an
effective vocational program. We have based our on-line program
development on the philosophy that adult learning is based on active
participation.
On-Line, Self-Paced or Live?
Not everyone is a good candidate for on-line learning. It is
time-consuming and may require special configuration for a PC.
Self-Paced (sometimes referred to as correspondence) often means that
you don't get it done. Live classroom training is limited by the
instructor. A combination of these methods is the proven most
effective strategy for vocational career learning. For licensing
training, we normally recommend the quickest course of study.
